The Holiday season is upon us and I have felt called to share what I am thankful for over the past year, and how all those blessings God has bestowed upon me all have one thing in common and that is Him.
“Sing to Lord with Thanksgiving…” (Psalm 147:7 ESV)
Being an imperfect person and a professional sinner I have learned that selfish pride often overshadows my giving of thanks to God. Got a raise at work- I did that. Bought a new house- I did that. Able to buy that new vehicle- I did that. The thing I forget about are all the prayers I have said to God prior to receiving these gifts. Not only was I treating God like a genie, but I was not giving him any credit. Instead of being the faithful Disciple God commands, I was waking and going to bed holding the genies lamp to my forehead wishing for things to happen and when they happened- I made it happen.
My sinful nature and lack of self-awareness, has been quite the humbling experience in my walk with God. Fully surrendering to God gives Him credit for all things good. We are far to quick to make God the author of evil in our lives, while we pridefully boast in successes.
Give credit where it is due- HE is deserving of all thanks.
